Spirit Boat After being recognized by our ancestors, the canoe is where we journey towards the place of our families and love ones in the after life. Free Ancestors Happiness A symbol of respect and healing for the ancestors, I combined the Bolinao skull that wears the Oton death mask inside of a Manunggul jar. These are pieces that the ancestors have left for us that reminds us about their practice and beliefs when it comes to death and the journey in the afterlife. Oton gold death mask- A golden mask is placed on the face of the deceased serving as an amulet against evil spirits, dated from the late 14th and 15th A.D. Found in San Antonio, Oton, Iloilo. Manunggul burial jar- 2nd burial jar to store bones, dated late Neolithic period 890-710 BC, found in Manunggul Cave, Lipuun Point, Palawan. The Skulls Why is that the symbol of the skulls are feared and being related and attached to Evil? The skulls are symbols of our ancestors in the afterlife, It is a symbol of the warriors and heroes who died fighting for our freedom.
